McDonald’s Is Bringing Back a Highly Requested Menu Item for the First Time in Over 30 Years

Over the years, McDonald’s has offered many fan-loved menu items. So many, in fact, that it’s almost impossible to determine which one defines the Mickey D’s experience. Is it the classic Big Mac? An order of Chicken McNuggets? The divisive Filet-O-Fish sandwich? Or just a simple side of french fries? The truth is, the Golden Arches may not have one signature menu item—and that’s because fans love them all.

That fervor isn’t just reserved for current menu items either. In fact, fans might love McDonald’s discontinued menu items even more—as clearly evidenced by the years of pleas to bring the Snack Wrap back (a wish Mickey D’s finally granted in 2025).

But, if you thought fans were excited about the Snack Wrap’s return after just nine years, then wait until those McDonald’s lovers learn that the chain is bringing back an item not seen in over three decades. McDonald’s is officially bringing back its original Fried Apple Pie.

McDonald’s Apple Pie is a fast food icon, but the crispy, spiced apple pie that’s on menus today is not the same one Ray Kroc introduced in the 1960s. Kroc was known for asking his franchisees to experiment with new menu items—that’s how we got the Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish, and, of course, Fried Apple Pie, which was Mickey D’s first-ever dessert.

The hand pie started as a family recipe of Litton Cochran, an East Tennessee McDonald’s owner and operator. Cochran’s wife, Jo, spent months perfecting it, and the Fried Apple Pie became a local legend—then, eventually, a nationwide favorite.

Mickey D’s sold its Fried Apple Pie until 1992, when it slightly changed the recipe to a baked crust instead of a fried one.

While the current apple pie (and its subsequent seasonal flavors) remains a favorite, fans never stopped requesting the OG pie’s return. Now, as America is celebrating its 250th anniversary—and since they say there’s nothing more American than apple pie—McDonald’s is bringing back the iconic Fried Apple Pie for a limited time.

Beginning June 23, the original recipe Fried Apple Pie will be back at drive-thrus nationwide. McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie is filled with 100% American-grown apples in a golden, flaky crust that’s fried for the same crispy, crunchy bite you may remember from nearly 35 years ago.

The Fried Apple Pie is an all-day menu item, meaning you can start your day with a McCafé coffee and a Fried Apple Pie, end your day with a Quarter Pounder and Fried Apple Pie, or enjoy an à la carte Fried Apple Pie any time in between.

McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie won’t stick around for long, unfortunately, and is only available while supplies last. So, you won’t want to miss out on this historic return—because there’s no telling if or when the dessert might hit menus again.
