Ali Iyad Olwan becomes first Jordan player to score in FIFA World Cup

Ali Iyad Olwan became the first Jordanian player to score in FIFA World Cup after he found the net against Austria in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Olwan received the ball in the left wing on a counter attack and proceeded to slide into the box before curling a right-footed shot in off the post.

He celebrated by holding up a No. 11 Jordan jersey as a tribute to teammate Yazan Al-Naimat, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee during the FIFA Arab Cup quarterfinal against Iraq.

Olwan scored nine goals during Jordan’s 2026 qualifying campaign. He was also the side’s top scorer in the 2025 Arab Cup with six strikes.

The 26-year-old forward represents Qatar Stars League side Al-Sailiya in club football.
