Houston stadium weather update — Will rain affect Portugal vs DR Congo in FIFA World Cup 2026?

Cristiano Ronaldo has already guided Portugal to three international trophies. But the biggest of all, the FIFA World Cup, has eluded him so far, in five attempts.

He will look to change that in his sixth attempt as Portugal begins its 2026 World Cup campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday.

Portugal is drawn alongside DR Congo, debutant Uzbekistan, and Colombia in Group K and will open its campaign at the NRG Stadium in Houston. Meanwhile, DR Congo, returning to the tournament after over half a century, will hope to walk on the path of Cape Verde to stun the favourite as an African nation.

Will weather play a role in Portugal vs DR Congo?

Rain is probable in Houston on June 16, and fans heading to the stadium or fan parks around the venue must be prepared for occasional downpours.

According to Accuweather, there is projection for about an hour’s rainfall with little to heavy flooding in several areas around Houston.

According to the local weather forecast, a tropical system is moving along the upper Texas Gulf Coast, which will sustain rainfall across the Houston metro area throughout Wednesday, with chances of localised flooding after heavier bands of storms.

The greatest rainfall totals are expected to remain closer to the immediate coastline.

In the stadium though, the chances of rain or thunderstorm disrupting the match remain minimal since the game will take place in an enclosed venue.
