The Tar Heels still need to get the final handful of outs to knock out West Virginia and advance to the championship finals, but a 3-0 start in Omaha would have UNC in an ideal situation for the finals.
We’ll of course get confirmation on the pitching situation later, but let’s dig in.
The Heels used two pitchers in Game 1 in Omaha and three in their second win. Freshman star Caden Glauber appeared in both, going 2.1 innings against Ole Miss and 0.2 innings in the first West Virginia game. Jason DeCaro got the start vs. Ole Miss, going 6.2 innings before Glauber finished off the game. In the second, Ryan Lynch, Glauber and Walker McDuffie combined for another impressive outing — four runs allowed total in two games.
But perhaps most importantly, with North Carolina running away from WVU on Wednesday, UNC should be well-rested for the start of Friday’s finals. Folger Boaz lasted only an inning, but Jackson Rose has been a game-changer, taking over in the second and throwing zeroes.
If North Carolina can close out the Mountaineers on Wednesday, that likely leaves DeCaro, Lynch and Glauber rested and ready for the finals.
