Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif reacts to the signing of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,’ says it “demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict”

In a post on X, Sharif says now that it is signed, as a first step, Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and the US will immediately lift the naval blockade

He also offered his “heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation” to President Trump for his commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution rather than war. Sharif also commended the efforts of the US negotiating team, “including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner”

Others the Prime Minister named as work in reaching this MoU, from the Iranian side, include Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iranian Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Minister of Interior Eskandar Momeni

He also thanks the leadership of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt
