Sharks acquire Will Smith’s former Boston College teammate in deal with Bruins

SAN JOSE — The Sharks on Thursday traded two of their picks in next week’s NHL Draft to the Boston Bruins for forward Andre Gasseau, an unsigned draft choice, and a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.
The Sharks are getting the 120th overall selection from the Bruins and are sending a fourth-round selection (104th overall), which originally belonged to Florida, and a fifth-round selection (157th overall), which originally belonged to Montreal.
If the Sharks do not sign Gasseau, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 224 pounds, by Aug. 15, then he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Gasseau, who turns 23 next month, was the captain at Boston College this past season and finished fourth on the team in scoring with 23 points in 23 games. A Garden Grove, California native, Gasseau was originally a seventh-round draft pick by the Bruins in 2021.
Gasseau was teammates with Sharks forward Will Smith on the 2023-24 Boston College team that captured the Hockey East regular-season and tournament championship titles and advanced to the NCAA national championship game.
The Sharks now have seven picks in next week’s draft at second and 27th overall in the first round, 62nd overall in the second round, 120th and 127th overall in the fourth round, 174th in the sixth round, and 201st overall in the seventh round.
