The Gist

  • Emma Heming Willis shared a rare photo with husband Bruce Willis on her Instagram account on June 18.

  • Her post was in honor of her 50th birthday; she used the caption to reflect on the past decade of her life as a wife, mother, and caregiver for Bruce.

  • She also used the post to raise awareness for frontotemporal dementia (FTD); the star’s family revealed that he was officially diagnosed with the disease in February 2023.

Emma Heming Willis hit a major milestone—her 50th birthday. On June 18, the British model celebrated the occasion. To mark the special day, she shared a rare photo of herself and her husband, Bruce Willis, celebrating on Instagram.

“Today is my big 5-0. 🎈And I have to say, I’m ready for this new decade and all it has to offer,” she captioned a photo of herself and Bruce seated together in the park. For the special occasion, Bruce and Emma donned matching paper party hats and smiled at the camera as they shared a loving embrace.

In the caption of the post, Emma used her birthday as an opportunity to reflect on her journey as a wife, mother, and caregiver to her husband. She also used her platform to raise awareness for frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive brain disorder that damages the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, per Mayo Clinic. Bruce’s family revealed that he’d been officially diagnosed with FTD in February 2023 after being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022.

“My 40s were heavy, yet I’m proud of how far I’ve come as a wife, mom, care partner, and advocate,” Emma reflected. “I’m also proud of the work we’re doing through the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund and what lies ahead. Together, we’re raising awareness of FTD, supporting caregivers, and advancing education and research.”

The Emma and Bruce Willis Fund describes itself as “a grant-making organization that supports an ecosystem of grantees that work in our core areas.” The three core areas include raising awareness, funding research and accelerating discovery, and supporting caregivers, which they accomplish “by providing resources, practical tools and opportunities for respite,” according to their website.

“As I step into this next chapter, my birthday wish is for a future where families facing dementia have more support, resources, less stigma, and every reason to hold onto hope,” she added, encouraging her followers to support the fund.

In the same post, Emma also shared a video of Bruce—who she married in Turks and Caicos in 2009—breathing in helium from a balloon before launching into a high-pitched rendition of “Happy Birthday.” “Happy birthday, dear Mommy! Happy birthday to you!” Willis sang as their children—14-year-old Mabel Ray and 12-year-old Evelyn Penn—giggled in the background.

Willis also shares three daughters—37-year-old Rumer Willis, 34-year-old Scout Willis, and 32-year-old Tallulah Willis—with his ex-wife, Demi Moore.
