U.S. Open cut line: Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau among big names who will not play the weekend

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Friday morning, Jon Rahm was in contention at the U.S. Open. Friday afternoon, he was on his way home.

What happened in between?

A back-nine 41 that not only sent him tumbling down the leaderboard — he started the day at -2 — but on the wrong side of the cutline altogether.

The cut line at the U.S. Open is the top 60 and ties, meaning every player who’s tied for 60th place or better gets to play the weekend (and, importantly, cash a check). That came in at +4.

And Rahm is not the only big name who fell on the wrong side of that number and will not make it to the weekend at Shinnecock.

Bryson DeChambeau was also in red numbers early in Friday’s Round 2. But a 5-over 75 means he will miss his third straight cut at a major. That’s quite the turn for DeChambeau, who finished in the top 10 in three of four majors a year ago.
