LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – The body of a woman discovered near Old Cherokee Road and Northlake Drive on Wednesday has been positively identified as missing person Elena K. Moore.
According to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, an autopsy is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at MUSC in Charleston.
Additional information regarding the cause and manner of death is expected to be released on Monday.
PRIOR COVERAGE
Moore was reported missing on Friday, June 12th.
Authorities described her as being 5′7″ and 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Police said Moore frequented the Planet Fitness at 560 Whiteford Way; the investigation revealed that she signed in at that location on June 11 at 6:40 p.m.
She was reportedly seen walking away from that Planet Fitness, toward a wooded area behind Lowe’s Home Improvement. She was wearing an olive green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants.

MONDAY’S SEARCH
WIS was on the scene behind the Lowe’s Home Improvement on Monday as a large presence of first responders gathered in the area.
Lexington police later said that it was “not a recovery operation, but rather a precise effort to rule out one less place Ms. Moore could be.” No trace of Moore was found in the area.
LPD Investigator Missy Silcox told WIS that Moore’s husband was the one who reported her missing. On Monday evening, Slicox said police did not yet suspect foul play, nor did they believe Moore was in imminent danger.
She also said police believed Moore had a phone with her, but that it was not pinging.
TUESDAY UPDATE
Obtained camera footage from the Lexington Police Department on Tuesday showed Moore walking through the Publix parking lot, at 100 Old Cherokee Road, on Thursday, June 11th, at 9:17 p.m.

The footage captured her walking in the direction of Old Cherokee Road, wearing the same olive-green zip-up hoodie with black athletic pants as reported from Planet Fitness.
Photos were also released that were captured on a front-door camera a week before Elena was reported missing.

WEDNESDAY UPDATE
Around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police began a multijurisdictional search for Moore in the area of Lakeside Middle School at 455 Old Cherokee Road.
Old Cherokee Road was closed between North Lake Drive and Berkshire Drive during the search.
Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green announced that a body was found at 2.48 p.m. and matched the clothing description of Moore.
The area where Moore’s body was found is about half a mile from the Publix where she was last seen.
