TRNSMT headliner Richard Ashcroft dedicates song to Scottish footballing heroes

TRNSMT’s Friday headliner has dedicated one of his songs to Scottish footballing heroes as he delivers compelling performance.
Richard Ashcroft dominated the Main Stage on the first night of the festival taking the crowd through his best songs as he praised them as “the best audience in the world.”
As he introduced each track, the singer gave an anecdote that aligned with each song.
In the middle of his set, Richard then chose to dedicate one of his performances to three Scottish footballing legends.
He said: “Saw a beautiful documentary last night. This one’s for Jock Stein, Sir Matt Busby and Bill Shankly. Scotland’s given so f***ing much to football so we appreciate you.”
Richard then sprang into Space and Time, as its soft guitar-led tune had crowds swaying along in time to the beat.
The former Verve frontman also paid tribute to the “beautiful” things in his life, namely his wife and two children.
Introducing the last song of the set, Richard said: “A little sip of beer before we start, if you don’t mind. Thank you again for being an amazing audience. This is Bittersweet Symphony.”
The crowd roared as the iconic symphony played across Glasgow Green and Richard lent his signature vocals to the melody.
After the set finished, many in the crowd then moved over to this year’s festival fan zone where Scotland fans watched the national team take on Morocco when it kicked off at 11pm.
TRNSMT organisers were granted a late night license to show the match by Glasgow City Council last month.
