‘How to Make a Killing’
Two of Hollywood’s hottest current stars who seem to be in everything these days, Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley, both appear in “How to Make a Killing,” streaming Friday on HBO Max. The A24 flick stars Powell as Becket Redfellow, a man disowned by his rich family at birth, who goes on a killing spree to rip back the inheritance taken from him. In addition to Powell and Qualley, who plays Becket’s childhood friend and love interest Julia Steinway, the film also stars Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris. From the debut of Netflix’s new Boston-set mystery “I Will Find You” earlier this week to the return of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” on Sunday, there’s no shortage of TV shows to watch this weekend. Among the many new and returning titles is “The Agency,” the CIA spy thriller led by Michael Fassbender. He plays an agent, code-named “Martian,” who’s called back to London from an undercover mission, when the reemergence of his lover Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith) complicates matters. The series features quite the star-studded cast, with Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere also appearing. Available on Paramount+
Matthew Rhys and Stephen Root in “Widow’s Bay.”Apple TV
The New England-set comedy horror series “Widow’s Bay” just wrapped up its first season, with this week’s finale finally answering all those burning questions about what’s behind the mysteries at the heart of this fictional seaside destination. Matthew Rhys deserves his flowers for his hilarious portrayal of bumbling mayor Tom Loftis, but the real MVP of “Widow’s Bay” has to be Kate O’Flynn, who steals the show as the mayor’s socially awkward but secretly bad ass assistant, Patricia. All 10 episodes are now available to binge on Apple TV and, luckily for fans, the show’s already been renewed for a second season. Available on Apple TV
‘The Real Housewives of Rhode Island’
Another New England-set series, this time of the unscripted variety, also wrapped its first season with the recent finale of “The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.” Catch up on all the Ocean State drama ahead of the reunion special, with part one airing on Bravo Sunday night at 9 p.m., streaming the next day on Peacock, and the second part dropping on June 28. Available on Peacock
Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace in “Project Hail Mary.”Jonathan Olley/Amazon MGM Studios
One of the year’s biggest movies finally arrived on streaming this week with “Project Hail Mary” hitting MGM+. The sci-fi adventure stars Ryan Gosling as a high school science teacher who somehow ends up on a mission to space to save the world, with the help of a friendly alien named “Rocky.” The film earned four stars from Globe critic Odie Henderson, who called the film “a lovely, bittersweet character study, a pas de deux between man and alien that elicits a surprising amount of emotions by the time the credits roll.” Available on MGM+
