North Carolina vs. Oklahoma: Live updates, score for Men’s College World Series Finals Game 2

Good morning from Omaha!

We have another grey day over Charles Schwab Field, but that hasn’t stopped fans from filling the streets early in preparation of Game 2 between North Carolina and Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m. ET. Thankfully, rain shouldn’t be a factor today as fans and players alike embraced the elements for the final two innings of Game 1 yesterday.

The Sooners’ offense continued to produce in their 9-3 win over the Tar Heels yesterday, running UNC’s Jason DeCaro out of the game in just 3.2 innings. On the mound today, UNC is expected to roll out sophomore Ryan Lynch who holds a 4.20 ERA and a 5-4 record on the year. The 6-foot-4 righty went 4.2 innings with two earned in his last start against West Virginia, and Scott Forbes will likely need a solid start from Lynch to force a winner-take-all Game 3 on Monday.

On the other side, Oklahoma is expected to roll out freshman Xander Mercurius who totes a 5.51 ERA and a 1-2 record. But the 5-foot-10 righty is coming off his best start of the season last Monday against Georgia where he went 7.1 innings with three earned and a career-high nine strikeouts. We’ll see if Skip Johnson’s pitching staff can continue to elevate their play as they’ve done all postseason as the Sooners sit just one win away from their third MCWS title.
