David Gray promises ‘high octane’ Isle of Wight Festival debut

BABYLON singer David Gray has told the County Press he won’t be “messing about” as he makes his Isle of Wight Festival debut today (Sunday).

Although his performance will be his first at the event, David has visited the Island before and said he “loves it” here.

He arrived by ferry this morning.

“Throw a bit of water in and a few seagulls and the band had a dolphin go by this morning,” he said.

“That all whets the appetite when you cross The Solent.

“I think it’s a rather splendid place to have a festival.”

The This Year’s Love singer, who released new music as recent as last year, said he visited the Island as a kid and also had a “memorable fun night in Yarmouth.”

He said: “I was here and then I took a sailing trip from Portsmouth with a couple of insane friends and we sailed about and we stayed overnight in Yarmouth.

“I remember I thought, I know we were a bit wasted, but these houses are small, man.

“And so that was my last experience of being here.”

Talking up today’s set, David said it will be “no nonsense, high octane” fun.

“It’ll be a pretty obvious set,” he said.

“I play all my biggest songs pretty much anyway.

“With a couple of little twists and turns.

“So, yeah, I’m just going to try and go very fast between songs because I’ve only got a short amount of time.”

After today’s show, David will be going from one Island to another.

“We’ve got another gig to get to in the Isle of Man.

“We’re island hopping!”
