Popular fast food chain’s only Somerset branch suddenly closes its doors

The Tim Hortons restaurant on Weston Links, off Winterstoke Road, in Weston-super-Mare was found closed by locals, with no prior announcement.

One person, who visited the store last night, said in a local Facebook group: “Just went to go for a milkshake and it’s unexpectedly shut down.”

The outlet, near the A370, is now listed as “permanently closed” on Google and has been removed from Tim Hortons’ official list of locations.

The Weston Mercury has contacted Tim Hortons for comment.

The branch opened on February 17, 2022 as the Canadian chain’s first restaurant and drive-thru in Somerset.

The site served the brand’s range of doughnuts, breakfast items and coffees.

Ahead of its opening, Kevin Hydes, then chief commercial officer of Tim Hortons UK, told the Weston Mercury: “We’re really excited to be welcoming people from this region. It’s the first one in Somerset, and probably the furthest western site that we have.

“We’ve got lots of fans in the area, there’s been a lot of noise about Tim Hortons coming to town”

Tim Hortons opened its first UK restaurant in Glasgow in 2017, although it had already established a presence through self-service counters in Spar stores from 2007.

Founded by Canadian NHL player Tim Horton, the company opened its first store in Ontario in 1964.
