‘We are stronger’: Weston-super-Mare primary school praised in Ofsted inspection

St Martin’s Church of England Primary School, on Spring Hill in Worle, was inspected on April 28 and judged to be “strong” in six of the seven assessment areas. The remaining category – achievement – was rated as “expected”.
The report highlighted a positive atmosphere across the school, with inspectors saying children feel “safe, valued and included”.
They added that staff provide a “warm welcome” from the moment they arrive and work to ensure individual needs are met.
The school’s commitment to inclusion was also praised, particularly its support for those facing barriers to learning.
“Adaptations start right from pupils’ arrival at the school,” the report said. “Pupils with additional needs benefit from tailored support, such as the opportunity to sit in a quiet space for a calm start.”
Inspectors also noted that children are confident staff will support them if they have concerns, adding that they know adults at the school “care about them”.

Head of school Tracey Thomas said the outcome reflected the work of the whole school community.
“We are delighted to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, where our school was judged to be strong in six out of seven areas,” she said.
“Under the new, more rigorous framework, this is highly positive recognition of the quality of education and care we provide.
“We are incredibly proud of our pupils, staff and wider community, whose collective efforts ensure our school continues to be a strong and thriving place to learn.”
She added that inspectors recognised the school’s inclusive ethos, as well as “joyous playtimes” and positive experiences across the school.
“It was particularly pleasing that the report acknowledged that our efforts are making a noticeable difference for all pupils, as well as our commitment to providing an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious start in Early Years,” she said.
The school, part of the Kaleidoscope Multi Academy Trust, has around 304 pupils and currently has places available for September.
