A 51-year-old man died at the band Goose’s concert in Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 20. The man, whom CBS News identified as Paul Kueker, came to the concert with his wife and fell off the 300s-level balcony a little before 10 p.m. When police arrived in the section to treat him, he was unresponsive. Kueker was immediately brought to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Goose resumed playing a half hour after the incident. Kueker had two children, who were not at the concert.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight’s show,” Goose wrote on Instagram. “We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected. Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support.”

The day after Kueker died, the band played at SummerStage in Central Park, where they addressed the tragedy. “We just wanted to take a moment to address some of the tragic events that happened at last night’s show and extend our deepest condolences to Paul, his family, his friends, and everybody who was affected by what happened,” Goose member Peter Anspach said. “In moments like this, you realize life is so fragile; we’re so lucky to have an incredible community here around us. Everybody, if you’re struggling with something, please don’t be afraid to reach out to somebody in your life or send us a message.” Following Kueker’s death, the band revealed that all the proceeds from the SummerStage show would go to a fund that aims to support their fans.
