The June strawberry moon is this week: when to look up and peak viewing times

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — It’s officially summer, which means the Strawberry Moon will be here soon to illuminate the night sky.
The summer solstice, the longest day of the year and the first day of the summer, was this past Sunday, June 21. The first full moon of the summer, the strawberry moon, will appear on June 29.
While the moon will have a rosy hue, the name was originally used to track the seasons.
The “Strawberry Moon” name has been used by Native American tribes to denote the ripening of strawberries and peak season for other June berries ready to be harvested.
The Haida people even have termed the moon the “Berries Ripen Moon.”
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the moon will reach peak illumination at 6:56 p.m. CT.
To get the best view of the full Strawberry Moon, find a spot away from light pollution and check the FOX 17 forecast to see if there will be heavy cloud coverage or storms blocking the view.
