Brighton father and son lose thousands on World Cup trip after not receiving tickets

Brighton, N.Y. — A Brighton man and his son, who drove hours to Philadelphia for a World Cup match earlier this week, never received their tickets.
The father-son pair from our area says they’re out thousands of dollars and there’s been no answer from StubHub International about what happened.
To clarify, StubHub is a separate entity from StubHub International.
“It’s just very, very incredibly disappointing to me,” said Alan Mogray of Brighton.
They bought the tickets on StubHub International back in December, spending $ 1,100 plus travel expenses.
“They were not cheap, they were through secondary so we were paying twice what the tickets actually cost just for the opportunity to go to the game,” said Zack Mogray of Alexander Bay. “A day before we’re due to leave for Philadelphia. I’m on the phone again, just let us know we have them. They’ll be there, good faith, they’ll be there.”
Alan and Zach made it to the stadium on game day for the France vs Iraq match on Monday, and still no tickets in hand even though there was confirmation on their app. So, they reached out to StubHub international again but were met with more disappointment.
“I finally got someone and explained to her we are at the stadium,” Zack said. “We do not have our tickets. We are listening to kickoff. Can’t find our order She checks by the order number. She checks by my email address, my phone number, all of the information on the receipt, can’t find the order which just baffles us that you can take our money, send us a receipt and then at the day of the event Yep, sorry, we don’t see it.”
The father and son said it was a lifelong dream to see a World Cup match together, and now they’re out of money for tickets.
“We were never going to get it back, it’s just not going to happen. So I mean, that’s I think the biggest disappointment of all,” said Alan, “the money, that makes me mad that I’m out the money, but the fact that we exhausted what we thought was a reputable organization to buy tickets through, and for this to happen is just incredibly disappointing.”
We reached out to FIFA and they responded with a statement:
FIFA.com/tickets (primary ticket sales and the official resale/exchange platform) is the official ticket sales channel for the FIFA World Cup 2026. FIFA can guarantee the validity and delivery of tickets purchased through its official platforms.
StubHub International has not responded to our request for comment.
New York’s Attorney General’s Office is already investigating FIFA over World Cup ticket prices. The AG’s Office is also encouraging people to report any issues with FIFA ticket prices.
Alan and Zach sent a photo to 13WHAM News on Thursday afternoon inside the stadium, updating us that they purchased new tickets to the Curaçao-Ivory Coast match without any issues.
