After a supposedly leaked image of a brand new Casio G-Shock x Pokémon watch took over the internet last weekend, the Japanese watchmaker has officially announced its newest collaboration watch. Though there have been a number of Pokémon G-Shock watches in the past, they have all been part of the Baby-G range, making this the first time that there’s been a full-sized Pokémon G-Shock. It’s an exciting release, but it won’t be an easy one to get your hands on.

Using the brand’s signature G-SHOCK GA-110, a design known for its large face and hybrid analogue-digital functionality, this new collaboration watch is a colourful piece in red, green and blue. The colours are a nod to the titles of the first two games in the franchise (Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green in Japan, and Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue internationally).

There’s Pokémon branding all over the watch, including a sub-dial that looks like a PokéBall with a small yellow Pikachu silhouette on it, the caseback is engraved with a Pokémon logo, and the resin watch strap has designs of every single starter Pokémon from the first generation to the ninth, plus Pikachu and Eevee. As an Easter egg, the strap keeper features a small icon of the mythical Pokémon, Mew, a fan favourite among many.

As a collector’s piece, the watch ships in a special box that looks exactly like a PokéBall. With the charm and specialised design, unfortunately, comes an exclusivity – the watch will be sold through a lottery system on Casio’s official website. The lottery will be open between 1 and 6 July, in Japan, and will cost ¥33,000 (£150). An international release hasn’t yet been confirmed, but given the popularity of the franchise and previous Pokémon G-Shock watches, we have an inkling that this might hit more markets in the coming months.
