Major police cordon on busy Manchester city centre road amid serious incident

A major police cordon was in place overnight in the Northern Quarter.

Pictures sent to the Manchester Evening News show a large police presence at the junction of Oldham Street and Thomas Street at around 3am. Witnesses have told the M.E.N. a man has been stabbed, however this has not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

Officers could be seen stationed in a large cordon in the area, in what is one of the city centre’s busiest nightlife spots.

One witness told the Manchester Evening News the cordon was in place at the side junction of Oldham Street and Thomas Street. They said a group ‘with faces covered up’ attacked a person ‘and then took off’.

Greater Manchester Police have been asked for a statement on the incident.
