Weather Authority Alert activated for Sunday ahead of intense heat and humidity

A Weather Authority Alert is in place for the Local 6 region ahead of the first prolonged heat wave of the summer next week.

A long stretch of potentially dangerous hot weather will begin this weekend, likely continuing through all of next week. The region will see multiple days with high temperatures in the mid 90s, along with brutally high humidity, which will lead to several consecutive days of peak afternoon heat index readings of at least 105 to 110 degrees, possibly even higher.

The WPSD weather team anticipates several days of heat advisories or possibly an excessive heat warning to be issued for most or all of the area, likely starting on Sunday.

It will be difficult to get much relief at night as well, with the high humidity keeping overnight temperatures in the upper 70s most nights.
