Exclusive: Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley reveals dream TV role outside of the soap

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Jeff Hordley may have debuted as Cain Dingle in 2000 and spent the last 17 years as a series regular on Emmerdale, but the actor has stated that his dream role would be on another British series.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, the actor discussed his marriage to co-star Zoë Henry, career to date and what the future holds – and why he would very much like a role on period comedy-drama Rivals.

“There’s lots of really good stuff being made out there at the moment. Rivals is great!” said Hordley. “I would happily do something like that. It seems like the actors are having a really good time, and that’s what draws me to it.”

While he expressed an interest in the Disney+ series, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is looking to leave the Dales anytime soon, with the actor sharing that he has no immediate plans to depart as he “loved” the role.

Hordley’s original stint on the ITV soap lasted for six years before his departure in 2006, though he returned just three years later. During his first tenure, he tied the knot with co-star Henry, who plays Rhona Goskirk.

“We met years ago at a party, and she said that she liked my shoes,” he recalled. “We have an allotment together, and we work together on that. When you’re working as a team, doing things like that, it gives you good strength.”

While the actor is very much content away from the soap, it’s been a difficult time for his character. The hot-headed figure was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and his marriage to Moira has become strained.

Furthermore, his son Kyle Winchester was also revealed to be the figure behind the farm fires, though that fact isn’t yet known to Cain. That will change next week, however, as Graham Foster tells Cain everything about Kyle.

“It’s devastating for him to hear that Kyle has turned to crime, but also that he confided in Graham over him,” shares our Emmerdale insider. “Cain would do anything for his kids, so it’s a real blow that Kyle didn’t feel like he could come to him first.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
