‘A horrifying and a vile crime’: Toddler, two women found dead in Jackson home

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A toddler and two women were found dead inside a home on Queen Alexandria Lane Saturday night, according to Jackson police.
Officers were called to the scene in reference to a shooting at approximately 9:15 p.m. First responders and the coroner also arrived at the location.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the three victims: described as a 26-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman and a 2-year-old toddler.
According to Jackson Police Department officials, the three victims had been shot multiple times and succumbed to their injuries.
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney described the killings as “a horrifying and a vile crime” and called on the public to assist investigators.
“Not only is it a horrifying and a vile crime, you have two women assaulted, and then, as we said earlier, it takes a coward to slaughter a toddler. A defenseless toddler, just lying in their bed. So we really do need the community’s help on this one,” Brackney said.
Malik Mayberry lives within walking distance of the house where the triple homicide happened.
He says, last night, he and a friend were heading to the store when they saw a car leaving the house.
“My friend, he was just pulling up and the guy was leaving and so, my friend, he just pulled his car up a little bit so the guy wouldn’t hit his car. Everything looked normal,” said Mayberry.
But that all changed moments after they got back and police came knocking on his door. Soon, the street was filled with blue lights.
“It’s hard to process knowing it’s happening right across the street from you; it’s pretty tough to deal with,” Mayberry continued. “Whatever happened, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t even called for.”
Co-founder of Saving Ourselves Sherry Nolen, who lost her son to gun violence in Jackson, knows this feeling all too well.
“When violence happens, it can make people feel like nowhere is safe. You know, we can’t allow violence to control who we are or how we live our lives,” Nolen said.
Since her son Akaeem was killed in 2021, she’s dedicated her life unifying families to gun violence victims and has tips for how we can work together to not let more shootings like this be tolerated.
“I always encourage families to lean on support systems. Counselors, victims advocates, faith leaders and trusted loved ones. Stay connected to each other and also the justice process,” shared Nolen.
Sunday afternoon, a vehicle belonging to one of the victims which had been taken during the crime was located.
The vehicle, a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage, was recovered from Manhattan Park in North Jackson and will be processed for evidence, officials said.
The car was unoccupied at the time of the recovery and police are still working to both identify and locate the suspects in this case.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
No further information has been released at this time.
If anyone has any additional information related to this case, they are asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477).
