Chili’s What Is The Molten Skillet Cookie?

A Chili’s server in Ohio recently captured a quietly remarkable scene from inside her workplace: the assembly of a molten skillet cookie — the off-menu dessert hack laying siege to FoodTok all summer.
Zoe (@z.breezy_), a Macedonia, Ohio Chili’s server bound for Ohio State this fall, recently captured the moment.
What is the molten skillet cookie?
Zoe films herself constructing the now-viral combination comprising a warm skillet chocolate chip cookie crowned with a molten chocolate lava cake. Per Allrecipes.com, the dessert “features the gooey skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with the decadent chocolate lava cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a hard chocolate shell with a caramel drizzle.”
Her manager drifts in and out of frame, watching without protest, looking closer to amused than supervisory.
The molten skillet cookie isn’t on the official Chili’s menu in any traditional sense; it lives in the gray space where customer-invented hacks circulate on TikTok until a corporate chain decides to formalize them.
Zoe’s clip slots cleanly into the genre — half service-industry confessional, half free advertising — and Chili’s, which has spent the past year benefiting handsomely from this kind of grassroots evangelism, gets to keep cashing the checks.
“Chili’s abt to use this for marketing”
People were widely impressed by not only the desert but the Chili’s itself.
“What typa fairy tale happy go lucky Chili’s is this omg,” one wrote. A second agreed, “No bc this must be the happiest crew at Chili’s ever y’all seem so [joyous].”
One person joked, “Red shirt looks so happy to be there.” Zoe responded, “LMAOOO that’s our general manager.” This prompted a commenter to highlight the importance of management, writing, “A good pleasant boss is a gift. You find out quickly when you don’t have one.” She replied, “Oh trust me I know, I [transferred] locations to this one. I commute 45 mins to work now, no regrets!! I love it here.”
Another person suggested Zoe might be in line for a pay raise.
“Chili’s abt to use this for marketing girl, get ur raise,” they wrote. She replied, “PLS CHILIS IM A BROKE COLLEGE STUDENT I NEED IT.”
AnAOL reviewer, having sampled the customer-built creation, called it “essentially the best brookie you could ever have.” They claimed that, per a local store manager, Chili’s has now quietly added the molten skillet cookie to its official secret menu, so the kitchen will plate it for you rather than make you stack it yourself.
It’s the same playbook Starbucks ran. Fast Company’s Mark Wilson, writing on the coffee chain’s decision to formalize its TikTok-bred customizations, noted that “these glitzy, viral drinks are being made with the ingredients Starbucks already has lying around.”
That commenter might be right: Zoe, unwittingly or not, is doing the work the marketing department used to pay for.
