Wimbledon is officially underway and, unsurprisingly, Naomi Osaka has once again showed up as a fierce competitor for Best Outfit. On Monday, the four-time Grand Slam champion stepped onto the court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in a ceremonial Japanese dress by Tokyo-based designer Hana Yagi. The all-white ensemble honors both Osaka’s heritage (half-Japanese, half-Haitian) and the Wimbledon tradition of monochrome white tennis dresses.
Per WWD, the Yagi-designed look features a traditional furisode, or dress with billowing sleeves, and an obi sash with decorative strings. As Osaka walked onto the court, a long tulle skirt trailed behind her for a regal effect. The 28-year-old is, of course, no stranger to daring on-court fashion. In 2024, she wore a Brat-adjacent neon-green set, complete with ruffles and bows, to the U.S. Open. In January, she wore a jellyfish-inspired look co-designed by Robert Wun and Nike to the Australian Open. A few months later, she opted for a sparkling couture ensemble by Kévin Germanier for this year’s French Open.
Osaka is already on her way to a great Wimbledon run, having defeated Elsa Jacquemot of France in their first-round women’s singles match. That is probably owing to her status as one of the greatest athletes of all time, but hey, you can’t understate the luck of a very good outfit.
