A quick word on Jaylen Brown, as his sticky situation continues to loom so large over this offseason. Barring a drastic and unforeseen change in the market, the Boston Celtics will have to significantly lower their asking price if they plan on trading him anytime soon.

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, they’ve been asking for up to four first-round picks (in addition to players) for a team to land the 29-year-old forward. We knew this during the Giannis Antetokounmpo negotiations but it remains true in the wake of Boston getting beat out by Miami in those sweepstakes.

And while there is some interest in Brown out there, the fact-finding I’ve done over the course of the past couple days strongly indicates that it’s nowhere near the level they’d like.

Here are the most timely examples.

Is Jaylen Brown ready to leave Boston?

Portland: League sources have been tying the Blazers to Brown for some time now, but all indications are that their interest is moderate, at best. And, again, nothing close to what the Celtics have been asking for, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations.

Denver: While the Nuggets have certainly considered the Brown option, they haven’t spoken to the Celtics since the weekend and their interest has been significantly overstated, according to team sources who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing negotiations. There’s a familiar obstacle, too, as the Nuggets simply don’t have the draft assets to satisfy the Celtics’ ask. Even if they did, it seems, they wouldn’t have the motivation to move them in exchange for Brown.

Brooklyn: The Nets are another team that has been tied to Brown but the Nets are not engaged with the Celtics at all and don’t appear to be heading in that direction, those sources said.

All in all, this makes many wonder where the Celtics go from here. If they don’t move Brown, there will be some serious relationship rehabilitation to be done between the two sides with how this summer has unfolded.
