A woman who incredibly survived plummeting 4,000ft now enjoys a renewed outlook on life.
Netflix has recently added a three-part docuseries chronicling the extraordinary true account of Victoria Cilliers. The synopsis of The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot explains that: “When a skydiver somehow survives the failure of both her parachutes, two dogged detectives uncover a story of affairs, debt, sex clubs, escorts and murderous intent.”
Following its initial availability on Channel 4, then subsequently on Disney+, the series is now streaming within Netflix’s vast catalogue. This means an entirely fresh audience of viewers will be learning about Victoria’s incredible story.
She was a seasoned skydiver who embarked on a parachute jump on Easter Sunday in 2015. The jump was a present from her second husband and British Army sergeant Emile.

Their relationship had been under strain and Victoria knew her husband was involved with other people. Nevertheless, this gesture appeared to signal things were improving, reports the Mirror.
Yet both Victoria’s primary and reserve parachutes failed to deploy during her descent. She fell 4,000 feet to the ground. Witnesses to the incident believed it must have been fatal.
Nevertheless, while Victoria suffered critical injuries including a broken pelvis, she survived. Officers investigated and ultimately discovered evidence suggesting someone had interfered with her parachute.
Authorities suspected her husband. Emile Cilliers was convicted of two counts of attempted murder. He received a life sentence with a minimum term of 18 years.

Victoria subsequently penned a book detailing her experience. Entitled ‘I Survived: I married a charming man. Then he tried to kill me. A true story.’
Published in 2020, it was described as ‘powerful and honest’. The book is said to chronicle “the story of a woman who was put through hell and yet found the strength to forge a new life for herself and her children.”
According to her publisher’s website, Victoria continues to reside in Wiltshire more than a decade following the incident. She shares her home with her two children and her new husband. It states she is employed as a physio for the Ministry of Defence.
Mirror Online reports she wed fellow parachuting enthusiast Simon Goodman during 2024. The couple first met at a small gathering and started their relationship in 2018.
During an appearance on Loose Women in 2024, she discussed attempting to date “tentatively” but noted it “becomes too much when you try and explain the circumstances”. She added: “But this sort of happened organically, and it’s someone that I didn’t have to explain my life to”.
Her experience also formed the basis of a 2018 documentary entitled The Parachute Murder Plot, which was presented by Fiona Bruce.
