Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette ruled out of ALDS against Yankees

Bichette has been ruled out for the ALDS against the New York Yankees as the shortstop continues to work his way back from a knee sprain.

If the Blue Jays are able to move on, Bichette’s return would provide a much-needed boost at the plate, as he was slashing .311/.357/.483 through 139 games while leading MLB in hits and doubles prior to the injury.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury on Sept. 6 and has been doing some light workouts to try to work his way back to the field. As of Saturday, Bichette had not started running, which would be a big indication that he is close to returning.

General manager Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider both described Bichette as day-to-day earlier this week and spoke in positive tones about the shortstop’s progress.

“I’ll never put anything past Bo,” Schneider added. “It’s a big couple days for him, obviously. If he’s ready, we’ll obviously welcome him back with open arms, and if he’s not that’s another thing you want to play for is to keep going to get him back, hopefully in the next round.”

“Every day has gotten better for him,” Atkins said. “He’s doing everything possible to be ready as soon as possible.”
