In a video posted to social media on Wednesday, Nara Smith shared that her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy, was diagnosed with cancer late last year.

In the two-minute video, Nara recalled taking her daughter to the ER and then to the pediatrician’s office, before being referred to a children’s hospital. After multiple tests, Nara said, the doctors told her and her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, that Whimsy had cancer. They were told that the disease had spread and that their daughter needed to begin chemotherapy treatments immediately.

Nara noted that, on top of spending time at the hospital with Whimsy, she’s postpartum and raising three other children. (Nara and Lucky are also parents to Rumble, Slim, and Fawnie.) Balancing it all has been a daily struggle. Her professional life is also moving quickly — she recently announced that she’s releasing a cookbook and was cast in an upcoming film. “Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard, and all I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can,” she said.

“Throughout all of this, I’ve been on a plethora of forums, social media, also talked to parents and family in the hospital, and all of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me,” Nara said in her video. “We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort.”
