Severe thunderstorm warnings issued for Toronto and GTHA

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for Toronto and several regions across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) this evening.
Environment Canada says a line of strong thunderstorms is moving in from Lake Huron this afternoon and is expected to track across the region into the evening.
Winds gusting to up to 100 km/h, quarter-sized hail and up to 30 millimetres of rain are expected.
Yellow-level thunderstorm warnings are in place for Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Newmarket, Georgina, Whitby, Pickering and Oshawa.
Burlington, Oakville and Hamilton are under an orange-level warning.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada said.
Emergency Management Ontario is recommending that those in the affected area to “take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
The warnings come as multiple areas across Toronto and GTA are under extreme heat advisories.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are also in effect for the Ottawa region and parts of Quebec.
