LEWIS COUNTY, New York (WWNY) – The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down in Lewis County on Tuesday.
It says an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds of 95 to 105 miles per hour caused damage at around 2 p.m. between Castorland and Croghan.
The twister traveled about three-quarters of a mile on Swiss Road, damaging trees and causing downed poles and power lines.
Town of Denmark
In the town of Denmark, the weather service determined a microburst caused damage at around 2 p.m. on Route 26, most notably in the backyard of a property where several trees were uprooted and vinyl siding was ripped of a home.
On Wednesday, 7 News spoke with a National Weather Service meteorologist at the home of Lori Atkinson in Denmark. She had several uprooted trees, including one that fell on her swimming pool.
Glenfield
In Glenfield, the wind tore part of the roof off a Johnson Road home and snapped some trees. The NWS has determined a microburst was responsible for that damage.
In both microburst cases, the wind speed was estimated at 95 to 105 miles per hour.
