Sting Forward, Recent Columbus Blue Jackets Draft Pick Announces Commitment To Boston University

Fresh off being drafted into the NHL, Sarnia Sting forward Alessandro Di Iorio has announced a commitment for his hockey future.
The Vaughan, Ont., native will join the Boston University Terriers of the NCAA for the 2027-28 campaign, choosing to depart the OHL ahead of his 19-year-old season.

The skilled and responsible two-way centre put up 31 (12+19) points in 45 games last season on a struggling Sarnia team. He also joined up with Canada at the U18 Worlds, scoring three assists in five games while wearing a letter on his sweater.
Di Iorio was a top prospect entering major junior, being made the second overall pick in the 2024 OHL draft by the Sting, behind only Windsor’s Ethan Belchetz.

He hasn’t shown the pop of dominant offence he displayed in the GTHL which got him drafted so high, but has kept a reputation of being a good player in all areas of the ice, and clearly is still seen in a pretty high standard by both NHL teams and Hockey Canada.
The Sting should have more offensive options in 2026-27 to surround Di Iorio with, which should hopefully help him out a bit as the team looks to make the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
