New Oregon minimum wage rates take effect

Oregon’s minimum wage increased July 1, raising the state’s hourly pay rates for workers across all three wage regions.
The new rates will remain in effect through June 30, 2027, with minimum wages continuing to vary based on where employees work.
Workers within the Portland metropolitan urban growth boundary now earn a minimum of $16.80 per hour. The standard minimum wage, which applies to much of western Oregon, including Lane, Linn, Benton, Marion, Jackson and Lincoln counties, increased to $15.55 per hour.

In Oregon’s non-urban counties, including Coos, Curry, Douglas, Klamath and Umatilla counties, the minimum wage increased to $14.55 per hour.
The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries adjusts the state’s minimum wage each July 1 based on inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index.
Oregon law requires employers to pay the applicable state minimum wage even though the federal minimum wage remains $7.25 per hour. When state and federal wage laws differ, employers must follow whichever standard is more beneficial to employees.
The minimum wage applies to most workers in Oregon, including minors. State law does not allow employers to pay a lower training wage or use employee tips to satisfy minimum wage requirements.
For employees who work in multiple wage regions, employers generally must pay the minimum wage for the location where an employee works at least 50% of the pay period. Employers may also track hours worked in each region and pay the corresponding regional rate or pay all hours at the highest applicable minimum wage.
