Silverstone – Sprint: Tsolov snatches victory on the final lap ahead of Mini

In the very last lap of the Formula 2 Sprint at Silverstone, Nikola Tsolov overtook Gabriele Mini to snatch an important victory.
He couldn’t afford to falter if he wanted to maintain first place, but Gabriele Mini made a mistake on the final lap of this Sprint. Formula 2 At Silverstone, the Italian, who started from pole position and led from start to finish, finally locked up his wheels at the beginning of the final lap, allowing Nikola Tsolov to benefit from his slipstream and take the lead in the closing kilometers. Thanks to this well-deserved victory, the Bulgarian closes to within a single point of his Mini rival and, more importantly, secures his fifth win of the season. A feat no other driver has managed to achieve this year from the grid.
After an excellent start from fifth place, Nikola Tsolov built his victory from third. He was able to overtake Rafael Villagomez (third at the finish), the protégé of the racing program. Red Bull then patiently supported Gabriele Mini. A move that was bound to disappoint the protégé of the youth academy. Alpine, not very smiley on the podium.
ART Grand Prix and DAMS stand out, Câmara still lagging behind
Among the championship leaders, it’s becoming a familiar pattern for Rafael Câmara, but the sprint race wasn’t a constant comeback. The Brazilian, once again stuck in traffic, lost positions at the start before managing to regain his initial 10th place. Starting from pole position this Sunday, the Brazilian will be looking to set the record straight, as he chases his second victory this year after his sole win in Barcelona.
Finally, the performance of the French teams should be noted, which did not go unnoticed at Silverstone. Fourth and fifth, Kush Maini and Tasanapol Inthrapuvasak scored 9 additional points for ART Grand Prix, while Dino Beganovic and Roman Bilinski, sixth and seventh, livened up the field more with their defensive maneuvers and overtaking maneuvers behind the leaders.
Now, the focus will be on the main race, scheduled for 12:10 (French time) this Sunday, July 5.
