Crews extinguish grass fire

Grass fire beside Highway 97
UPDATE: 6:16 p.m.
The grass fire along Highway 97 and Sneena Road in West Kelowna has been extinguished.
According to West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund, crews from West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to the fast-growing blaze shortly after it was reported.
He said smoke from the fire was highly visible as the blaze quickly spread.
“The fire grew to 300ft x 75ft before being halted byR crews who worked alongside WFN officers and the RCMP.”
Fire crews remain at the scene completing mop-up operations, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area while emergency crews work.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
UPDATE: 5:55 p.m.
The West Kelowna fire Department tells Castanet crews have the fire contained between Highway 97 and Sneena Road.
Sneena Road is currently closed to traffic.
”It’s not expected to grow further,” says West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund.

A grass fire is burning along Highway 97 near Sneena Road in West Kelowna.
The fire sparked just before 5:30 p.m.
The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.
