Any eagle-eyed Middlesbrough supporters around the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday afternoon may have noticed a subtle change.
Boro posted pictures to their social media showing that work had been completed on replacing the two big old club crests on the exterior of the Riverside, either side of the stadium’s main entrance.
Out with the old and in with the new, the club’s recently-unveiled crest was displayed in place of the old one after being officially revealed by the club earlier in the year, following an extensive design process that featured the input of thousands of Boro supporters.
The club began using the new crest officially at the start of June, with the club website and social media platforms changing in line with the rebrand.
A club statement at the time confirmed that work would continue over the summer at the Riverside and the Rockliffe training ground to update signage, branding and other physical assets.

The new badge which now decorates the exterior of the Riverside Stadium is the red version of the new crest, which will be used permanently from the 2027-28 season.
However, on the soon-to-be-launched kits and social media for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign, Boro will be using a special gold version of the badge, with a 150-year anniversary signifier underneath, as part of the club’s celebrations for their milestone year, having been founded in 1876.
Designed after consultation with Boro supporters by fellow Boro fan and graphic designer Andy Patterson, the new club crest has a number of features as part of its design that make it subtly Teesside, including the lion’s tongue being the shape of the River Tees on the curve where the Riverside Stadium is located, as well as the outline of Roseberry Topping within the lion’s mane.
