GRL star Lauren Bennett has died at the age of 37.
The English singer was a member of the American girl group GRL, who made their debut with their 2013 song Vacation on the Smurfs 2 soundtrack. The band shot to international fame and featured on Pitbull’s 2014 hit single Wild Wild Love.
They announced Lauren’s death on Monday (July 6) with a heartbreaking post on Instagram. They said in a statement: “Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved.”

They added: “Rest peacefully, sweet Lauren. You will always be in our hearts. Your GRLS, Em, Tash, and P.”
Lauren is survived by her daughter Harlow, who was born in 2019. She shares Harlow with her partner Kenny Wormald, a dancer and actor.
GRL originally consisted of members Simone Battle, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen. Battle sadly took her own life at the age of 25 after struggling with depression – and GRL dedicated their single Lighthouse to her.

After leaving the group The Paradiso Girls, Lauren launched a solo career and appeared in a remix of Will.i.am’s I Got It From my Mama. She then collaborated with LMFAO on their mega hit Party Rock Anthem, which became her first number one single in the UK and US.
Lauren was an original member of GRL, who found international success. She had featured in the Pussycat Dolls’ fitness DVD and worked with Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin.
The lead single on their self-titled EP peaked at 2 on the Australian charts. Sadly, Simone died in September 2014, when the group were on the rise, and the band disbanded the following year.
Lauren released her solo single Hurricane in May 2016. She said at the time: “After G.R.L. ended I had no idea what was going to happen next, everything fell apart pretty fast. That’s when this song was written.
“After seeing my mother suffer with mental struggles for years I then lost a friend to this. It has always affected my life in some way. We all at least know someone who has dealt with it or have yourself. This is a story to show from my eyes what it feels like to suffer from this but also the other perspective to lose someone to this.”
GRL reformed in June 2016, just a few months later, and the group went on to tour with the likes of S Club Allstars, 5ive and Brovas.
