Adam Sandler Called Nantucket Police 48 Hours After Officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding. Here’s Why

NEED TO KNOW

  • Adam Sandler called the Nantucket police less than 48 hours after officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding to find somewhere to play basketball

  • He ended up joining a group of locals at one of the island’s courts

  • Sandler also stepped out to play a game of basketball hours before officiating the July 3 wedding

Adam Sandler is best known for his hit movies, but offscreen, the actor and producer is just as devoted to another passion: basketball.

Hours before officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding on July 3, Sandler stepped out to play pickup basketball on outdoor courts in New York City in the middle of a heat wave. Then, less than 48 hours later, the 59-year-old Grown Ups star made headlines again for his love of the game.

After popping up to his home state of New Hampshire for the Fourth of July holiday following the star-studded ceremony, Sandler headed to Nantucket, Mass., on Sunday. When the actor arrived, he called the Nantucket Police Department’s non-emergency line to ask where he could find a pickup basketball game, public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds told the Nantucket Current.

“Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?’ ” Reynolds told the outlet.

Reynolds ended up directing Sandler to the Backus Lane court off Surfside Road, where he joined a game with some locals. One of the players, Andrew Kesler, told the Current that he and his friends were playing a game when Sandler got out of his car and asked to join.

“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys,” Kesler said. “He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’ ”

As for his hooping? “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball,” Kesler said.

Sandler first connected with Kelce on the set of the 2025 Netflix comedy Happy Gilmore 2, in which the football star had a cameo. The Wedding Singer star previously talked about his respect for Kelce, calling him “such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell” in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“He’s like the guys I grew up with,” he said at the time. “When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”

Sandler also spoke glowingly of Swift, whom he said is “incredible,” in the same interview. “Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been. My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm,” he said.
