KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue crews, along with assistance from the BC Wildfire Service, were able to contain a landscape fire just off Shuswap Road Monday (July 6) at 20 hectares. The fire is believed to be human-caused, with investigations into the origin currently being undertaken by the RCMP, Kamloops Fire, Tk’emlups and the BC Wildfire Service.
Kamloops Fire Rescue expects to remain on scene for quite some time babysitting the fire, digging guard and laying down water, as firefighters deal with hot spots, especially with temperature and winds on the rise.
“We have crews currently working up on the plateau up there, forestry crews. There are about 10 pickups full of forestry firefighters. We have two crews on scene and we have a water tender that is shuttling water to these guys up top,” said KFR Platoon Capt. Kris Krutop. “The wind is going to pick up [Tuesday] so we are going to keep chipping away.”
KFR received quick help from BC Wildfire – including aerial support from RJ tankers – which was critical in containing the blaze.
