25-year-old murder victim found along the Boise Greenbelt identified by Coroner

The Ada County Coroner has identified the man who was found dead along the Boise River Greenbelt early Monday morning.

25-year-old Jordan Harbst was discovered along the side of the Greenbelt between 11th St. and the Pioneer Pathway. Responding officers found Harbst, but he was declared dead at the scene. The Ada County Coroner has classified the manner of death as homicide, consistent with information released by the Boise Police Department.

Related: A GoFundMe has been set up by a family friend to help support the Harbst family during this incredibly difficult time.

The cause of death, however, remains pending. Investigators closed that portion of the Greenbelt for the better part of Monday as they worked to collect evidence at the scene. A suspect has not been publicly identified by police, and why or how Harbst was killed is not clear. A statement released by investigators on Wednesday says that they are intentionally not releasing much information about the crime to “Protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Police are now asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who was on or near the Boise River Greenbelt between the evening of July 5 and the morning of July 6 is asked to contact police if they witnessed anything unusual or suspicious. This could include seeing a person who was involved in or appearing to have recently been involved in a violent encounter, or anyone exhibiting suspicious behavior, even if it didn’t seem significant at the time.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have experienced or witnessed a violent encounter on or near the Greenbelt within the past few years that was never reported to police to come forward. “Investigators are reviewing any information that may help identify connections related to this case,” according to the statement from BPD.

BPD is asking everyone to remain vigilant while using the Greenbelt. Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Walk or run with others whenever possible. Avoid wearing headphones or anything that limits your ability to hear or observe your surroundings. And if you see anything suspicious, call the police.
