Man faces allegation of sexually assaulting female in Newtown in 2023

Martin Mahon, 67, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 30, where he was told the case against him is indictable only – meaning it can only be heard at the higher court.
Mahon, of Heol Rhedyn, Newtown, is charged with one offence of assaulting a woman aged 16 or over by penetration with part of the body.
It is alleged the offence occurred at the Frolic Street flats, in Newtown, on March 19, 2023.
Magistrates told Mahon he will make an initial appearance at Mold Crown Court on July 31.
They granted him bail until that date, with the sole condition of not contacting the victim.
Clarification: A previous version of this story included the headline charge, which stated that the victim was 13 or older. The full charge lists the victim as 16 or over.
