PIKESVILLE, Md. — Baltimore County Fire Department is responding to a mass casualty incident in Pikesville.
Fire officials report that a bus crashed into a building in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road.

That critically injured person has since been transported via medevac from the Maryland State Police to Shock Trauma.

“I’ve been doing accidents in Baltimore for probably 12 years, I’ve never seen carnage like this right here in our backyard,” said Yehoshya Bier, a personal injury attorney who works nearby.
He says he often sees accidents at the intersection of Old Court Road and Reisterstown and catches them on camera.
He was able to capture the start of this crash on camera, as the MTA bus drove through a red light and hit a white SUV.

Fifteen ambulances, including units from Howard and Anne Arundel counties, responded to the scene of the crash. BGE is also en route to help with downed power lines.
Baltimore County Fire says seven other vehicles were involved in the crash. The critically injured person needed to be extricated from the bus, and another required extraction from a car.
Baltimore County police say Reisterstown Road is closed in both directions between Old Court Road and McHenry Avenue due to the crash.
“The type of scene that is more associated with a war scene, but we’re so happy that everyone survived. We’re now working with first responders to try to get it back to a sense of normalcy for the community,” said Joe Dixon, Baltimore County Fire Chief.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes, as an extended closure is expected.
Governor Wes Moore released a statement saying his administration is “closely monitoring” the situation.

“Dawn and I are keeping everyone impacted in our hearts and prayers. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors. We’ve been in close coordination with local officials to provide any support needed on the ground,” said Governor Moore.
Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones says says he is in close contact with the Baltimore County Fire Department, and regional emergency partners, as the situation continues to unfold.
“A coordinated emergency response is well underway, and I have every confidence in the first responders working with urgency to rescue those in danger, care for the injured, and bring this emergency to a safe conclusion. My prayers are with everyone affected, especially the victims and their loved ones. I encourage residents to avoid the area and allow emergency crews the space they need to do their work safely,” Councilman Jones said.
