Chilling new details emerge about Darrell Sheets’ death by suicide

“Storage Wars” star Darrell Sheets, who died at age 67 in April, left behind a possible suicide note.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department released its full incident report on Sheets’ death on Wednesday, July 8. According to USA Today, the report reveals law enforcement found a note hidden in a closet near where Sheets was discovered dead in his home. Written in shaky handwriting, the note read in part, “I could not take anymore the Facebook bullying.”
Sheets’ “Storage Wars” costar Rene Nezhoda previously claimed that Sheets faced online harassment prior to his death.
“He had a guy really tormenting him lately on cyberbullying,” Nezhoda said in an April Instagram video.
Another one of Sheets’ costars, Laura Dotson, made similar comments during an April interview with Us Weekly.
“His family told us that this has been happening for three years,” Dotson said. “[It happens to] even strong men that you think aren’t gonna get their feelings hurt. Cyberbullying is a real thing. This made him feel less than, and it really obviously bothered him. He was terrified for his life [and] for the people around him. He didn’t know why he was being targeted.”
Police interviewed a man they identified as Sheets’ online bully. According to the incident report, the man was “extremely uncooperative” and denied any involvement in Sheets’ death. He claimed he’d been receiving “death threats” and declined to answer further questions.

The report also provided new details about the night Sheets died and his mental state in the days leading up to his death. His unnamed girlfriend claimed that Sheets’ son Brandon visited days before his death, leaving after the pair argued over “family drama.” The day before Sheets died, Brandon’s wife allegedly texted Sheets to “slander” his girlfriend and claim she was “stealing money” from him, which made him “sad and upset.”
Sheets’ girlfriend noted that he was also dealing with stress and insomnia due to “a male slandering his name.”
On the night of Sheets’ death, his girlfriend said she heard him get out of bed in the middle of the night. She followed him to his office, where she believed she saw Sheets sitting in a chair “with a handgun to his head.” Sheets’ girlfriend said she began pleading with him as she backed away. She “heard one gunshot” and then ran to call 911.

Sheets was a main cast member on the first 15 seasons of “Storage Wars,” which premiered on A&E in 2010. The reality series follows professional buyers who bid on the contents of abandoned storage lockers.
After leaving “Storage Wars” in 2023, Sheets retired to Arizona, where he operated an antique store called Havasu Show Me Your Junk. In a June Instagram video, Sheets’ son Brandon said that he and his family plan to reopen the antique store eventually.
“We’re gonna keep things going in his memory, his legacy,” Brandon said.
