Has Tyler Herro already switched his Bucks jersey number again?

Jim Owczarski on how his Bucks breakdown came together

Jim Owczarski of the Journal Sentinel talks about the process behind his detailed behind-the-scenes look at the split between the Bucks and Giannis.

It appears Tyler Herro is still workshopping the number he’ll wear with the Milwaukee Bucks and that a final decision hasn’t been made.

Earlier this week, Herro, one of multiple players the Bucks acquired from the Miami Heat in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis, indicated he would wear No. 42.

It was a nod to his father, who wore that number in high school at West Allis Hale, as well as one of his favorite Bucks players growing up, Charlie Bell, the 26-year-old Herro wrote on Instagram.

Bell, a shooting guard who went undrafted out of Michigan State, played for the Bucks from 2005 to 2010 when Tyler was between ages 5 and 10. Only eight players in Bucks history have worn No. 42.

But two days later, Herro changed his Instagram bio with a photoshopped image of himself in a Bucks No. 11 jersey. He shared the photo on his Instagram story.

So, has the Whitnall High School graduate already had a change of heart from No. 42? Herro had worn No. 14 his entire NBA career but that number isn’t an option in Milwaukee since it’s Jon McGlocklin’s retired jersey number.

No. 11 did just became available after the Bucks traded Gary Harris to the Detroit Pistons on July 7.

Harris, sent to the Pistons along with Taurean Prince for forward Caris LeVert and two second-round picks in 2027, wore No. 11 during his one season with the Bucks.

Brook Lopez, a player Herro played against for several years, wore No. 11 for the Bucks from 2018 to 2025.

Overall, 22 players have worn No. 11 in Bucks history. Other notable players to sport that number include Brandon Jennings, who wore it only for his second stint with the Bucks in 2018, Brandon Knight (2014-15), Monta Ellis (2012-13), Joe Alexander (2008), TJ Ford (2004-06) and Lindsey Hunter (2001), among others.

Ford is reportedly returning to Milwaukee to be an assistant coach on new head coach Taylor Jenkins’ staff.

The Bucks are selling Herro jerseys on its team shop but with the number 00. That’s different from the other former Heat players joining Herro on the Bucks as part of the trade.

Kel’el Ware’s jersey number is listed on the team store as No. 9, Jaime Jaquez Jr.’s is No. 24 and Kasparas Jakučionis’ is 25.

Ware wore No. 7 with the Heat but that number is taken by Kevin Porter Jr. on the Bucks. Jaquez wore No. 11 during his three years in Miami but was No. 24 at UCLA. Jakučionis appears he’s not changing his number from his one year playing for the Heat.

Herro hasn’t had his introductory press conference yet with the Bucks but he’s been out and about wearing Bucks apparel and working out in Bucks gear.

He’s in Las Vegas this week supporting the local AAU team, Team Herro, that he sponsors. The team features several Division I-committed players from Wisconsin.
