GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a University of Florida assistant professor and UF Health doctor on child porn charges.
Chintan Shah, 40, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of possession and transmission of child sexual abuse material and using a communication device in a felony.
Sheriff’s deputies say the investigation began in early April when a cyber tip reported a user sharing a child porn video on social media.
Investigators connected the account to Shah and executed search warrants. They found evidence suggesting Shah possessed child porn and was having illicit conversations with minors through social media.
On Tuesday, authorities searched his home on Southwest Second Place in Newberry and spoke with him.
The next day, he was charged and booked into the Alachua County Jail on no bond.

“This remains an active investigation, and additional charges may be filed. To protect the integrity of the case, no further details are being released at this time,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Online records show Shah worked at UF Health Shands Hospital as a nephrologist, a kidney specialist.
UF officials provided the following statement to TV20.
“We are actively working with law enforcement on this case. Dr. Shah has been placed on administrative leave and is trespassed from all University of Florida property effective today, July 8, as a result of these allegations. We are unable to provide any other information at this time. Please contact the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office with any further questions.”
