SIERRA COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) – An evacuation order is now in effect for the Elephant Fire in the area of Highway 49 and Dotta Lane in Loyalton, according to a 4:30 p.m. CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit Facebook post on Sunday, July 12.
Zone LAS-451-A has been upgraded to an evacuation order, and Zone LAS-671-B is in a warning, CAL FIRE said.
The Sierra County blaze is 5 percent contained and has charred more than 6,436 acres as of 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a U.S. Forest Service – Tahoe National Forest Facebook post.

The fire is burning off Highway 49 about 2 miles northeast of Loyalton, and its cause is under investigation, according to the Forest Service.
Fire behavior slightly moderated overnight, but the blaze remained “very active,” the Forest Service said.
Ground crews and aviation resources were continuing full suppression efforts to contain the fire as quickly as possible, according to the agency.
On Saturday, July 11, KOLO 8 reported the fire had burned more than 4,484 acres with no containment reported, according to a Forest Service Facebook post.
The fire started Saturday afternoon.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday there was no immediate threat to the communities of Sierra Brooks or Loyalton.
Officials said they would continue to assess conditions and monitor the incident.
Residents were advised to stay aware of the situation.
Officials said evacuation warnings or other protective measures would be issued promptly through official channels if conditions warrant.
