Timberwolves sign rookie Isaiah Evans to four-year deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves locked up rookie guard Isaiah Evans to a four-year deal on Sunday.

The specifics, a source confirmed: A four-year, $9.3 million contract in which the first three years are guaranteed and the fourth is a team option. The Timberwolves selected the 6-foot-6 wing out of Duke with the No. 33 overall selection in last month’s draft.

It’s the type of contract teams conjure up with second-round picks that give the player long-term security and the team a cost break, as the deal comes in at far less money per season than a veteran’s minimum salary.

Evans made his Summer League debut for the Timberwolves on Saturday in Las Vegas, scoring four points on 2-for-15 shooting while grabbing five rebounds in the Wolves’ loss to Denver.

Minnesota must fill at least one more spot prior to training camp to get to the league minimum of 14.
