HALF-TIME: Broncos lead Roosters 12-0 in the NRLW grand final

It’s been a dominant outing by the Broncos so far, and the Rooster look tired and disjointed out there. It really feels like they’re feeling the effects of those injuries.

The Roosters are only completing at 65 per cent and the Broncos at 80 per cent. Brisbane has run for 800 metres compared to the Roosters’ 700, and the Broncos have broken the line five times to Sydney’s two.

Mele Hufanga and Tamika Upton look almost impossible to stop out there, with Jada Ferguson, Ali Brigginshaw and Gayle Broughton wreaking havoc through the middle. Romy Teitzel, Shalom Sauaso and Keilee Joseph are leading the way in the engine room.

The Roosters look a little shellshocked to be honest, but I think the half-time break and perhaps a chat with coach John Strange should restore some of their usual composure.

34′ Errors costing Roosters

The Roosters drop the ball while on the attack 20 metres out, then Jocelyn Kelleher tries to strip the ball from Mele Hufanga. She somehow pulls it off but knocks it on and is lucky not to be penalised after a teammate picks it up in an offside position.

32′ Roosters back to the full complement

Fullback Brydie Parker returns after passing a 15-minute head injury assessment.

That’s huge for the Roosters, who are already without halfback Tarryn Aiken, try-scoring winger Taina Naividi and impact nech forward Amber Hall.

Brisbane strikes again!

Jada Ferguson is making a huge impact since coming off the bench as hooker and this time she scoots from close to the line and burrows through the defence of Rima Butler and Shawden Burton to score a classic dummy-half try.

Huge play from the number nine.

26′ Roosters miss out again

The Roosters are peppering the line and have the Broncos shot to bits on a short blindside, but the play-the-ball is too slow (miracle the Broncos didn’t concede a set restart) and that gives time for Ali Brigginshaw to fill the space and somehow dump Aliyah Nasio into touch basically all by herself.

25′ Disaster narrowly averted for the Broncos

Jocelyn Kelleher bangs in a grubber and the second bounce is a rank one for Kerri Johnson, who fumbles into her in-goal and only just barely manages to ground the ball before Jess Sergis arrives.

22′ Corban Baxter returns to fullback for the Roosters

Brydie Parker is still being assessed after her head knock, so five-eighth Corban Baxter is at the back.

Keeley Davis is in the halves and Shawden Burton is on at dummy half.

20′ Robinson knocks on!

One of the Broncos’ best, Julia Robinson, knocks on as she fields a bouncing kick-off and the Roosters have a golden chance to hit straight back here.

Can’t deny the Broncos this time as Upton burns a hole in the defence

The scrum is packed just to the right of the posts and the Broncos put it through the hands to strike weapon Tamika Upton.

She shimmies, shakes and tucks the ball under her arm as she powers past Jocelyn Kelleher, fending off Jess Sergis and diving over on the left.

Romy Teitzel converts and the Broncos are up 6-0 after 19 minutes.

18′ HUGE HIT! And the Broncos are denied a try, but the Roosters might be down a fullback

The bomb is perfectly weighted and Romy Teitzel arrives right as Brydie Parker takes the catch. The ball has barely brushed the hairs on her arm, and Teitzel has rocked her.

Hayley Maddick gets through to swoop on the loose ball and they celebrate a try, but replays show Parker and Teitzel knocked on.

Parker is off for an HIA.

16′ Chances go begging

The Broncos make a break through Kerri Johnson, who aimlessly offloads back infield straight to the Roosters.

Then Eliza Lopamaua drops it cold in a play-the-ball.

And Tamika Upton has them clutching at air close to the line but ends it with a hasty chip straight to Brydie Parker. Even if she’d missed that, the ball was going dead.

13′ Early changes for both teams

The Broncos sub on veteran prop Chelsea Lenarduzzi for Annette-Claudia Nu’uausala. And Destiny Brill is subbed off for number nine Jada Ferguson.

Rima Butler is off and Eliza Lopamaua is on, battering through the line with her first carry.

9′ Mele Hufanga steamrolls Jess Sergis

The Broncos centre charges at NRLW legend Jess Sergis and powers through the tackle, flinging her to the ground viciously before taking off upfield.

The Broncos have all the momentum, but the set ends with two poor Ali Brigginshaw kicks, the second of which trickles dead to give the Roosters seven tackles from the 20m line.

8′ Defences holding up early

Both teams have had a few cracks on the other’s goal line, and so far they’re handling everything that’s being thrown at them.

Aliyah Nasio is the latest to save the day, deflecting and diving on Ali Brigginshaw’s grubber.

4′ It’s a miraculous try-saver by the Roosters

The Broncos go to the line and Gayle Broughton’s chip over the defence sits up perfectly for her to regather on the bounce. She’s stopped well one on one by Brydie Parker, but manages to offload to Lauren Dam, who looks certain to crash over between the posts, but Mia Wood and Jess Sergis combine to somehow stop her a metre short.

2′ Broncos fire a warning shot

Brisbane’s first set ends with Gayle Broughton launching a spiral bomb out to the right wing of Mia Wood, stepping in for Taina Naividi. It’s allowed to bounce, although I’m not sure it was a choice, and Destiny Brill regathers for the Broncos, but she’s immediately wrapped up.

1′ The NRLW grand final is underway

Brianna Clark kicks us off and the Roosters get first use through Rima Butler.

Here come the NRLW grand finalists

Who wins? Brisbane or Melbourne?

Who do you think will take home the NRL 2025 Premiership?

Melbourne Storm or Brisbane Broncos.. 🏆

– Cody BJORKSTEN

Cody, I’ve been going back and forth all week.

I think the Storm have more class across the park, but Reece Walsh and Payne Haas could easily be the best players on the field and impact the game more than anyone else.

I know it’s hedging my bets a bit, but if Walsh keeps his error count below two, I think Brisbane wins. If he is forced into some mistakes, the Broncos’ attack loses so much class and strikepower.

One thing I say with some confidence, we’re in for a very exciting game.
