Beloved TV presenter defends 22-year age gap relationship

Beloved UK presenter Alison Hammond, 51, has defended her 23-year age gap relationship with her boyfriend, David Putman, 28.

Hammond quashed any suggestions their relationship was shallow and attributed Putman’s support for her “glow up”. The pair have been dating since 2023.

“’I’ve got a lovely man in my life,” she told The Mirror. “It’s just easy. I think that’s when you know you’ve got something special. He just sees me for who I am. We choose each other, every day.”

When the Great British Bake Off hostwas asked about her and Putman’s more than two decade age difference she said it was only a matter for the two of them.

“It’s nothing to do with anyone else. Yeah, people are going to talk. People do. But that’s their business, not mine,” she said.

“’I don’t think [there will be a wedding]. We don’t need to! We’re both cool.”

Putman is a Russian model and massage therapist. The couple are now living together in London.

The pair met in December 2023, when Hammond booked a massage appointment and Putman took her booking. They reportedly hit it off immediately.

Hammond told the Daily Mail UK earlier this year that the couple were “so in love,” adding that she wished people wouldn’t pay so much attention to their age gap.

“I completely understand why people are interested when there’s a 22-year gap,” she said.

“But what I find interesting is that it’s not as interesting when it’s the man who is older. Why is that? I just want people to be happy for us. We are absolutely in love.”

Recently, Hammond attributed part of her dramatic weight loss, which she has been working towards for the past five years, to being in a loving relationship.

The presenter was 190kg at her heaviest when a pre-diabetes health scare pushed her to get healthier, she said.

“My mum had Type 2 diabetes and she was worried for me, so when I then found out that I was pre-diabetic, that was frightening,” she toldWomen’s Health.

“I thought ‘I have to be an adult about this’. The sweets had to stop, and the fatty foods.”
