United aircraft will remove the dreaded middle seat in some rows

United Airlines is removing one of the more unpleasant experiences in flying — the jam-packed row — with a new economy option that replaces the middle seat with a table.

The Economy Plus configuration, which will debut later this year on the carrier’s new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, will feature a middle seat with a fixed table stretching between armrests. Passengers on either side can share the mini-desk that comes with two shallow holders for beverages and enough space for a small snack or travel-size board game.
